PSAT/PLAN RESULTS FOR 10TH & 11TH GRADERS
The results of your student’s PSAT (10th and 11th graders) and/or PLAN (10th graders only) tests are in the mail.  They include guidelines to help you interpret them, and the test booklet for reference. The 10th graders will take the PSAT again as 11th graders next year. The 11th graders will next take the SAT and ACT in the spring and again in the fall as seniors.

ATHLETICS

Winter Tennis Program Begins January 3rd & 4th
Students who have signed up for DA’s six-week indoor winter tennis program will begin their sessions immediately upon return from Winter Break.  Beginner/Intermediate students will play on Mondays from 4:00 – 5:30pm; the intermediate/advanced group will play on Tuesdays from 4:00 – 5:30pm.  Students will be bussed from Desert to the Sangre de Cristo Racquet Club and picked up at the Cub by parents at 5:30pm.

Basketball

  • Varsity girls got a great win last weekend over TSG. Estrella Flores broke the school record for most points scored in a game with 5.1. Congratulations!!!!!
  • Middle school girls got their first win over Waldorf. Congratulations girls!!
  • Middle school girls have their next game on Jan. 4th vs MDS at GC3 4:30. January 6th at NMSD 4:00 and January 7th vs Prep at NMSD 3:00.
  • Middle school boys have their next game on January 5th at GC3 vs MDS 4:30. January 7th at ECA 5:00.
  • After break, the varsity boys will play at Prep on January 3rd at 6:30.  January 5th at GC3 vs MDS 5:30.  January 8th at NMSD vs East Mountain 4:30.
  • Varsity girls will play MDS on January 4th at GC3 at 5:30.  January 7th at NMSD vs Springer at 5:00.  January 8th at NMSD vs East Mountain at 3:00.

Final exams will take place starting next Tuesday, December 13th. The review/final class day for all students is Monday the 13th.  Exams are scheduled for Tuesday –Thursday from 8:30am-11:50am. Make-up Exams will be held Friday the 17th from 8:30am-12:00pm. Please contact the individual faculty member for make-up exams or other special circumstances. Please note, school ends at 12:00 Tuesday-Friday and lunch will not be served. Desert Academy Middle School is proud to continue to offer the Outdoor Winter Sports Program.  This program will commence on Thursday, January 13 and will continue on each Thursday through January.  In February, we will switch to Wednesdays so that students do not miss too many Thursday block schedule classes.  It is our intention to include every student attending Desert Academy Middle School in one of the two winter sports options outlined in the attached letter (Ski-Snowboard-Option.doc).

ATHLETICS

Winter Tennis Program
Desert will be kicking off its Winter Tennis Program in the New Year!  This six-week indoor tennis program will be led by U.S.T.A. teaching pro, Sebastian Suarez and will take place on the indoor court at the Sangre de Cristo Racquet Club. The clinic will be held every Monday/Tuesday (beginner/intermediate players play on Monday; intermediate/advanced players play on Tuesday). The first week of play will be Monday and Tuesday, January 3rd/4th.

Our Winter Tennis Program will provide excellent preparation for our newly districted tennis team’s Spring season. For more information, contact DA’s tennis coach, Rod Mehling.

Desert Academy Swim and Dive Team

The Wildcats had a great start to their season last weekend with our meet opener in Los Alamos. Swimmers broke 5 Desert Academy records. Swimmers and divers combined had 9 top 6 finishes. Girls placed 6th overall and boys 8th overall (out of 14 teams). Quite amazing especially when considering we were the only 1A school out there competing.
This weekend we have the Demon Invite meet here in Santa Fe at the Genoveva Chavez Center. The diving competition starts approximately at 5:30 on Friday, December 10th. The competitive swimming portion of the meet starts at 10:00 on Saturday, December 11th. Please come by and cheer on our swimmers and divers.

Basketball
Middle school boys play today at GC3 at 4:00 vs Prep. Middle school girls will play tomorrow at 10:00 boys will follow at 11:00 vs Waldorf.

Varsity girls got a good win vs NMSD on Tuesday.  They will play TYG on Saturday at Fort Marcy at 12:30.

Varsity boys got their second win of the season beating Jemez on Monday. They will also play TYG following the girls.

Next week on Wednesday Msg and msb play at NMSD 4:00/5:00.

The Varsity team will be competing in the Menaul Bugg Light Tournament.  Girls will play Thursday at 9:00 boys at 10:30.  Friday and Saturdays time TBA.

It’s time to decide how to spend the money we raised at our Book Sale! Please join us on Wednesday, December 8, at 5:45 pm for voting on the Teacher Grants. All teachers have had a chance to fill out a form requesting supplies, textbooks, etc,. for their classrooms. ATHLETICS

Desert Academy Swim and Dive Team
The Wildcats have their first swim and dive meet this weekend in Los Alamos. Diving is on Friday, December 3rd at 5:00. Swimming is at 9:00 on Saturday December 4th. We have a record number of Wildcats swimming and diving this year. Please try and come to cheer on our swim and dive team.

Girls’ Varsity Basketball got their first win on Monday vs East Mountain. They will continue non-district play on Friday vs Coronado 3:00 at GC3. Prep on Saturday at Prep 6:00.

Middle School Girls & Boys will play their first game on Saturday at GC3 vs MDS. Girls at 12:00, boys at 1:00.

Varsity girls and boys will travel to Jemez on Monday 12/6/10, 5:00/7:00 and Tuesday at NMSD 4:30/6:00.
