We wish our students well as they embark on their exciting spring break adventures to Taiwan & The Dominican Republic!

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - Fifteen Desert Academy students, in grades 9 – 12, will be visiting the city of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic from March 5 – 17. The group is lead by Leos Club President, Alex Kokesh and Vice-President, Estrella Flores. This is Alex’s 3rd trip to the DR and Estrella’s 2nd. Faculty member and Leos Club Advisor Jessica Cavalli chaperons. The group will meet up with a grassroots community service organization in Santo Domingo called Friends Around the World. They will also work alongside a Dominican Leos club on a cooperative service project. This year, the Leos and FAW will be working with a Dominican organization called CONANI (Consejo Nacional para la Niñez y la Adolescencia) that benefits abused, neglected and abandoned children. They will paint the school building, give basic English lessons and do some art projects. Please see the attached DR Trip document with more important information about The DA Leo’s club.

The Middle School Production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” was performed 7 times Feb. 22-24 for over 1,000 children.  The audiences loved the show.  The faculties and staff of the various schools were all so impressed with the quality of the show and the the talent our kids displayed.  A reminder that this was tour was made possible by a generous grant from the Rotary Club.  I want to thank Savion Charbonet, Jordan Medina, Isaac Fischer, Ceryn Schoen, Isabel Pearson-Kramer, Noah Pearson-Kramer, Grace Calavan, Karen Girdner, Claire Hinkley, Abby Tiarks, and Natasha Browne for being the cast of my dreams.  I will always remember this special show.  Also, special thanks to our crew, headed up by our technical director Juliana Peterson, which included Greer Hill, Adam Melk, Aba Weberjones, Cody Shepard and Mack Snyder.  And special thanks to our stage manager Alea Campbell and my assistant Lily Tiarks.  And finally to Ms. Robinson who made this the high-quality musical production that it was.
