House Raffle

Win a House Or Choose $100,000.00 Cash!!

HOUSE RAFFLE DRAWING: DECEMBER 16TH!!

Desert Academy is raffling a beautiful 3 bedroom home near Old Town in Albuquerque. The home is valued at $268,000.00 and the winner can take the home or $100,000.00 cash!  You could win this great prize for the holidays, the drawing is December 16th.  Tickets are $100 each, and with 10 other prizes, your chances of winning a prize are approximately 1 in 350!

How can you help? Well, of course we want you to buy tickets (either on the website or with a check to school) AND send the website link to all of your email contacts and friends.  Also, consider helping us by distributing fliers or actually selling one of the multiple ticket deals to someone you know.

If every Desert Academy family sells just ONE 10 Ticket Deal, that will put us over the top!

Think about asking businesses that you patronize—your plumber, insurance agent, auto mechanic, dentist, hairdresser, and others. Give them an opportunity to win this great prize and support the school. The drawing is almost here on December 16th!

This is our biggest fund raising campaign Desert has been involved in and all proceeds will go to our financial aid program.  If you can help by distributing fliers call Kay at 992-8284 ext 23.

View photos of the home and buy tickets at  http://www.winanewmexicohome.com/

WILDCAT TENNIS TEAM RUNNER-UPS AT STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!
The Wildcat Tennis Team finished their season in exciting fashion. Districted for the first time, the Wildcats were selected as the #1 seed (Small School District) in the New Mexico State Tournament. On Friday, May 6 the Wildcats played Waldorf in the semi-finals. The matches were held at the Jerry Cline Tennis Club in Albuquerque. Six matches were played; 2 boys and 2 girls singles, and 1 boys and 1 girls doubles. Our girls won their three matches by forfeit (Waldorf has an all-boys team), and our doubles team of Toby Burger and Nick Umphrey won their match to give the Wildcats an overall 4-2 win. Nick Keller played #1 boys singles and Elliot Palestine played #2 boys singles in the semi-finals. Although both lost, they played exciting matches. Nick took Waldorf’s #1 player (Senior Tony Burling) to a tie-breaker in the second and deciding set.

On Saturday, the Wildcats returned to Jerry Cline to face Rehoboth for the State Small School District Championship. The match between the two teams couldn’t have been more exciting. Desert and Rehoboth had split their matches in their previous two District meetings. In the State Finals, Desert girls Lea Kolligs and Estrella Flores swept their individual singles matches and then went on to win their doubles match. This completed an undefeated season for the Lady Wildcats. Our boys — Sean Colin-Ellerin, Toby Burger, and Nick Umphrey –  played tough matches, but came out on the losing side. This left the contest at a 3-3 draw. The format calls for a mixed doubles match to decide the championship. Lea Kolligs and Nick Umphrey took on the #1 boy and #1 girl from Rehoboth; in a second set tie-breaker, Rehoboth edged out the win. What excitement!  What fun.

At the Spring Sports banquet this Friday evening, the Wildcat Tennis Team will receive its State Championship Runner-Up Trophy as well as individual letters and pins. What an exciting beginning for Desert tennis. With a young team, full of returning players, we look forward to an exciting,  competitive  and fun-filled season next year. Support Wildcat tennis!!!

Host Families Needed!!!

Share your world with a high school foreign exchange student and make an overseas friend for life.

By opening up your heart and your home, you will be giving an exceptional young person the opportunity of a lifetime – to live with your family and experience firsthand the language, customs and culture of our country. There is no greater opportunity for bright, inquisitive teenagers eager to expand their knowledge and their worlds. In return, your ASSE/World Heritage exchange student will bring a fresh new outlook on life and a bit of his or her native country into your home. It is truly the meeting of two cultures – not as a tourist, but as a “family” – learning from each other and living together.

Desert Academy seeks host families for:

·      Ya. She is 15 years old and from China. Ya plays the violin and piano, and loves swimming, badminton and reading.

·      Lena. She is 16 years old and from Germany. Lena loves animals, travel, cooking, skating, music, swimming, gymnastics and horse-back riding.

They are eager to join our community and so are we! Please contact me ASAP if you would like to be a Host Family.
