BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
Wednesday, September 7, 6:00-8:15pm

Please join us for this important evening in which you will have an opportunity to attend your student’s classes by following their daily schedule. Find out what they are learning by experiencing an abbreviated version of their day. Interact with your student’s teachers, receive course overviews, learn about IB, and the other exciting things going on at Desert! A light buffet dinner will be served. This is a parent only event. Please allow extra time for parking as the school lot spaces are limited. Additional parking can be found on Alto street and in the NDI (National Dance Institute), parking lot. Hope to see you here!

SMILE! PICTURE DAY IS TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20!
All 7th -11th graders will have their yearbook and ID picture taken on Tuesday, September 20. You may also order portrait packages at this time. The students will be given the order form to take home. This form and a check must be returned on Tuesday when they get their picture taken. Any questions call Patty.
Seniors will also take their yearbook and ID pictures on Tuesday. Portrait pictures will also be taken at this time but no money is required until you see the proof. Information packets have already been sent home with instructions and options. If you have not received it, please let Patty know.

Tuesday, September 13th, 5:30-7:00
The Parent Association is actively seeking parents who are interested in being involved and helping our school community. The PA is an integral part of our school – they fill a very important need that no other volunteer organization at the school can do. Their service is absolutely invaluable!! Their involvement ranges from helping with special events like the book sale, to allocating teacher/classroom grants to providing yummy desserts to the staff. All levels of involvement are appreciated. Please plan to attend the first informational meeting, Tuesday, September 13, from 5:30-7:00 here in the “Big Room” at Desert Academy. Bring your enthusiasm & ideas!

Supercomputing Challenge registration of teams begins September 1st, 2011.
All registration must be received by September 20th, 2011. Interested students should contact Ms. Comstock for additional information. Please send Ms. Comstock an email (jcomstock@desertacademy.org), after you register, so she can keep track of how many students/teams we have (there is a maximum of 5 teams per school). Please remember to record both Mr. Mathis and Ms. Comstock as the teachers.

Volunteers need for Santa Fe Concorso, Santa Fe’s premier auto event! Complete the attached volunteer form. Ask around to those who volunteered last year to find out what an amazing event this was. Desert Academy has again been chosen to be a beneficiary of the Concorso funds raised.

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS
Each family received a “Calling All Volunteers” form in the Back-to-School mailing, and attached here too. Thank you to those of you who have completed and returned the form. If you haven’t yet done that, please do. Remember, our school is strengthened by all of us working together. There are larger and smaller tasks that can help you be engaged in your children’s school year. Getting involved is easy and fun! Please complete and return the form so we know we can count on you!

On Friday, September 16th, the middle school will be participating in a camping trip to Colorado’s Great Sand Dunes. This trip will give students an opportunity to get to know each other and build peer relationships. Students will be hiking and camping. We will leave at the beginning of school on Friday, September 16th and return around 6:00 pm on Saturday, September 17th. Please download the letter below and return the signed permission form with $45 to Patty Conway by Wednesday, September 7th.
