April 14-16, 2010
Each year, our students have the opportunity to participate in Interim week during April. Interim is a yearly program at Desert that allows students to spend three, intensive days with their peers and teachers in a fun, in depth course of study. These courses may take the form of trips, outings, workshops, activities, or classes. This is a great opportunity for students to engage in intensive learning about a subject not otherwise included in the Desert Academy curriculum.
This year, our students will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of interim activities including:
- San Francisco/Oakland to work with the Blind Babies Foundation
- San Diego for track meets
- Gila Wilderness Backpacking Trip
- Comedy Improv Workshop
- Tennis Camp
- The Geek Way”: A Celebration of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Gaming
- “Allons au Cinema!” (French Cinema)
- Georgia O’Keefe Art Tour
- Fly Fishing Adventure
- Mind/Body Awareness (Meditation/Yoga/Nia)

Relief efforts for Haiti and Haitian refugees in the Dominican Republic are already underway at Desert Academy. As a school committed to local, national and international community awareness, education and support via programs like Sharing Our Humanity, Desert Academy students, faculty and staff have come together through our clubs and organizations to raise funds for survivors of the Haitian earthquake. But we need help.

There are many ways to help through your own child’s school:

It’s time to start thinking about applying for next year!
Our Open House on November 20th was a great success—over 250 attendees. If you weren’t able to attend the Open House, you can still plan to attend our Visitor Day on February 6, 2010.
Visiting students are with us!
Desert Academy students are hosting prospective students most Fridays through March 5. If you would like to schedule a “shadow” visit, please call Polly White at (505) 992.8284, ext. 14.
Parents are always welcome at Desert Academy!
You can visit with the Admissions Director, tour the school, talk to available members of the faculty, and get a glimpse of classes in action. Please call for an appointment.
Often families are interested in receiving an early decision on their child’s application to Desert Academy. A 5% tuition discount is available to students who are enrolled through the early admission process. The early admission option is not available for those who plan to apply for Financial Aid because our Financial Aid decisions are made in March. The early admission deadline is January 15, 2010. The regular admissions and financial aid application deadlines are February 27, 2010.
All application materials are available on the Admissions page.
