Assistance Dogs of The West
- Students train dogs to help people.
- Meets three times a week during school
- Assistance Dogs is a nationally recognized service organization that provides trained service dogs to people with disabilities in order to increase self-reliance and independence.
Project GUTS
“Growing Up Thinking Scientifically”
- Students learn how to model complex systems on a computer program called Starlogo.
- Units include ecosystems, traffic flow, pollution, and opinion dynamics
- Students attend GUTS one day a week and meet with other schools once a month at “roundtables” where they collaborate and share their models.
- Field trips to see modeling applied in real-life situations
Debate Team and Model United Nations
- Meets during lunch
- Beginning 2009-10, will compete through the National Forensics League and
Model UN with teams throughout the Southwest
Animation Club
- Comprised of animation enthusiasts from all backgrounds, ages, and ability levels.
- Club members make use of Desert’s technology to exlpore 2D, stop-motion, and 3D digital animation, creating animation for personal projects, short collaborative films, or just to try something new.
- Club members also screen and discuss films.
Gay/Straight Alliance
- Workshops emphasizing tolerance
